Planning a trip to New York City soon but wondering how you can afford to see all the shows on your list? We’ve got you covered. There are so many resources for theatre lovers to use — as long as you’re committed to work for it!

Let’s break them down.

1. Enter lotteries.

This is the most obvious, and can be the most frustrating tactic for scoring cheap seats. You never know when today might be your lucky day! And generally entering a lottery takes less than a minute. So why not try it out!

2. Check out the TKTS booths all over the city.

You’ve definitely seen photos of the TKTS booth in Times Square, as well as the line that can wrap around the booth. Did you know there are actually multiple booths in different areas of the city?

Check out the official TKTS page to see what all booths have to offer for show discounts. Usually tickets will be 40% – 50% off! Remember to leave enough time for standing in line if you use this method for scoring cheap tickets.

3. Check out TodayTix.

This website features multiple cities and multiple shows for a HUGE discounted rate. You can also find lotteries featured on the site for last minute deals.

4. Join discount sites.

Sites like LincTix and Hiptix are dedicated to helping young adults see shows for a cheaper price. LincTix is a discount ticket program for 21 – 35 year olds. This is a free program that allows you to purchase $32 tickets for the Lincoln Center Theater’s latest shows. Hiptix is for 18 – 35 year olds and allows you to purchase $25 tickets to all Roundabout shows.

5. Buy Standing Room Only tickets.

Also known as SRO, these tickets are generally between $25 to $40. It’s highly suggested to wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing for almost three hours, depending on the production.
