From her former liaisons with royalty, Madame made a luxurious, aristocratic life for herself and learned many skills of enchantment she intends to instill upon her granddaughter.

The young and beautiful second wife of Fredrick who, instead of consummating her marriage, relentlessly teases (and possibly flirts with) her stepson Henrik. She is playful and flighty, and realizes at the end of the play that she only married Fredrick because he was “lonely and sad.”

Her acting career is not what it once was, and she longs to settle down with her old flame, Fredrick, the secret father of Fredrika. She may not be the woman her mother wants her to be, but she is sophisticated, warm, and intelligent.
