Audition song suggestions for the character Robert (baritone)

As Robert nears his 35th birthday, he grapples with the fear of getting old and never settling down, as well fearing the alternative– marriage. Throughout the play, he observes his friends, who are all married and listens to their advice. He goes on dates, remembers former flames, and surveys his heart for answers. This character never leaves the stage and must find the layers of objectives and obstacles in this seemingly cheerful and charismatic leading role. Fun fact: this role was gender-swapped (“Bobbie!”) for the 2018 London production!

Audition song suggestions for the character Amy (mezzo)

Amy is Paul’s fiancée and loves him as much as she loves over-analyzing her thoughts and fears. However thoughtful and intelligent she is, she somehow misses the fact that she is deeply frightened of marriage itself until the day of her wedding. She and Bobby have a romantic history and resulting friendship that eventually saves the wedding. This actor must have impeccable comedic timing and conquer one of the greatest patter songs of all time.

Audition song suggestions for the character Paul (tenor)

Paul is Amy’s ever-patient and ever-loving fiancé. He does not panic when she loses her cool and trusts that their love is strong enough to overcome anything. If there were something stronger than marriage, he would have asked Amy for that. As it is, he is thrilled to get married and urges Bobby to do the same.

Audition song suggestions for the character Joanne (alto)

Joanne is a dear friend of Bobby’s who brings a little taste of cynicism and bite to the play. She is older than the others but nowhere near a nursing home, and so she exists in-between with her third husband, Larry, for Company. She only lets down her guard with him and while singing her show-stopping number “Ladies Who Lunch,” which is famous for its social commentary.
