Auditioning for Fredika Armfeldt (mezzo)
Spared from her eccentric mother’s theatrical touring life, Fredrika Armfeldt is under the care of her grandmother, Madame Armfeldt. At 13-years-old, she is a clever and precocious conveyer of truth. Self-possessed and formal for her age.
“Live Out Loud” from A Little Princess
Auditioning for Madame Armfeldt (alto)
Madame Armfeldt is the grandmother of Fredrika, whom she “rescued” from her daughter Desiree’s unsophisticated lifestyle as a traveling actor. From her former liaisons with royalty, Madame made a luxurious, aristocratic life for herself and learned many skills of enchantment she intends to instill upon her granddaughter.
“Colored Lights” from And the World Goes Round
Auditioning for Henrik Egerman (tenor)
Henrik is the brooding and serious 19-year-old son of Fredrick who pines for his young stepmother, Anne. Studying to become a Lutheran priest, Henrik is fueled by sexual repression and frustration for the frivolities and hypocrisies of the world around him.
“Johanna” from Sweeney Todd
Auditioning for Anne Egerman (soprano)
The young and beautiful second wife of Fredrick who, instead of consummating her marriage, relentlessly teases (and possibly flirts with) her stepson Henrik. She is playful and flighty, and realizes at the end of the play that she only married Fredrick because he was “lonely and sad.”
“Poor Monty” from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder
Auditioning for Fredrick Egerman (baritone)
Fredrick is Henrik’s widowed father and a lawyer with a habit for routine and order. His young and virginal second wife, Anne, brings him excitement, but not as much as the memory of his past affair with Desiree Armfeldt, with whom he unknowingly has a child.
“Pretty Woman” from Sweeney Todd
Auditioning for Petra (alto)
Anne’s maid and personal confidante, Petra, is loquacious, flirty, and experienced with men. She never misses an opportunity to feed her sexual desires, and demonstrates that several times throughout the play in her tristes with both Henrik and Madame Armfeldt’s butler.
“Everybody Loves Louis” from Sunday in the Park With George
Auditioning for Desiree Armfeldt (mezzo)
Though her daughter believes Desiree’s life is glamorous and exciting, she tires of life on the road. Her acting career is not what it once was, and she longs to settle down with her old flame, Fredrick, the secret father of Fredrika. She may not be the woman her mother wants her to be, but she is sophisticated, warm, and intelligent.
“A Quiet Thing” from Flora, the Red Menace
Auditioning for Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm (baritone)
Desiree’s newest lover is the vain and arrogant, yet attractive, Count Malcolm. He is abashedly cruel and strict with his wife, the Countess, and betrays her without shame.
“I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” from My Fair Lady
Auditioning for Countess Charlotte Malcolm (alto)
The Countess’ spirits are weighed down by her husband’s infidelity, which he shares with her often. She loves him regardless, and it gives her character a sardonic sense of humor. She plots to send him into a jealous rage to win back his affection and succeeds.
