Set in Venice, the play is considered to be the throbbing heart of opulence and debauchery in the seventeenth century, and is a satire on greed and lust in a money-obsessed society. A rich and childless nobleman, Volpone, and his parasitic lackey, Mosca, conspire to swindle three avaricious bounty hunters, each of whom wants to be Volpone's sole heir.
