At a church-sponsored halfway house in Southern Appalachia, a progressive high-school teacher with a rage problem attends to everyone's recovery but her own. Quick paced-dialogue and wit help drive Blue Ridge, a comedic drama about more than just recovery. Alison arrives at a St. John’s Service House and is immediately out of her element. Having to share a bible verse on the spot, she resorts to quoting Carrie Underwood lyrics. Although she doesn’t identify as an addict, Alison has anger issues and inner demons to battle. Cole, a recovering alcoholic, is a new arrival at the house. Cherie is also in recovery, and wrestling with a painful romantic entanglement. Pastor Hern, who co-runs the halfway house with social worker Grace, is hiding secrets of his own. Grace does her best to keep everyone on track to recovery, but finds herself slipping when Alison begins to meddle with other people’s issues.see less
