The Residents of Liliom each know their parts when welcoming new Guests to the after-life. Each Resident weaves a tragic tale of their last dying days; they all share their stories, hoping that when the Guests finally enter through the Gates, they can put in a good word for them to escape Liliom and finally get to Heaven. In this purgatory, Guests are urged to not stray from the Calm, for what lies in the never-ending void of this place is quite fearful and dangerous.
