Sydney and Kathy were born into the same family, but led very different lives. Discovered at a county fair as a teenager, Sydney was whisked away to become a Country Music star. Kathy was left at home to care for the girls' alcoholic mother. Now adults, Sydney is reaching the pinnacle of her career while Kathy is struggling to get by as a single mom. The play begins a couple hours before Sydney takes the stage for her first time at the Grand Ole Opry. In her dressing room, she meets Will, a young producer-to-be who has been exiled from New York City to Nashville for the summer. A fish out of water in more than one way, Will quickly identifies with Sydney and she soon confesses her biggest secret to him: she’s gay.
