To describe the Bloom children as precocious would be an understatement. Priscilla, the eldest Bloom, convinces her younger siblings to accept a wager: if they are able to provide proof of three people odder than them she’ll do their chores for a week. However should they fail the task they’ll be stuck with three weeks of Priscilla’s chores as punishment. Galvanized at the idea of proving her wrong, the three youngest Blooms set off into town to find strange folks.
