Sander is in a coma, after having severed his foot in a faulty elevator. His career driven wife, Callie, is brought to the scene, even though they had been separated for some time. Sander’s work ‘wife’ Lauren is a younger, more jovial and optimistic version of Callie, who stands by his side through the coma, wondering how the two of them had withstood marriage thus far. Will the pragmatic and direct Callie outlast the religious hopeful Lauren as they wait for Sander to wake up? This play mixes snippets of memory, fantastical imaginings, and desire, in a way that reflects the interior life of a coma patient, while contrasted simultaneously with the harsh hospital room that most characters spend their time waiting for Sander. Winner of the Generations New Play Prize.see less
