The play takes place in an area where past and present melt and Olivia relives her life in dream-like fragments. From her conventional beginning in France to her failed marriage with a painter she reveals everything to the audience. Olivia encompasses all the traits and roles involved with womanhood. Her story is that of everywoman. She is old, she is young, she is kind, she is cruel, she is a child and she is a mother. She is surrounded by the paintings of her former husband. She sits at her dressing table captured in the frame of a mirror the audience can see her through. As her story transitions into her older years she tells her story to a live televised audience.see less
