When Juliet and her group reach France, they encounter Lance who is throwing a ball for his son Francois. Lance rekindles a relationship with Angelique, who we discover was formerly the nurse of his children before she was employed by the Capulets. Lance’s character journey is ultimately about accepting his son and his choices in life and love.

Francois is a young Frenchman who lives a similarly “stifled” life as Juliet. He has been told he can either marry or join the military, but he finds both options extremely displeasing. Initially, he believes he is in love with Juliet after dancing at his ball. He soon realizes that he actually has stronger feelings for May, Juliet’s friend. He spends the rest of the play sorting out this triangle and hoping to be accepted by his father.
