American forces have just invaded Cambodia. Two young U.S. Army soldiers, PFC Matthew Dolan and PFC James Ivey find themselves trapped in a secret underground supply bunker. The Vietcong have taken possession of the American encampment above. In the confusion of the evacuation during an enemy attack, Dolan and Ivey become separated from their weapons. They narrowly evade death and avoid capture by retreating into the small undetected hole in the ground. To emerge with the enemy remaining above would mean certain death. The two men form an unusual bond as they struggle to come to terms with the psychological toll the war has taken on them. They also struggle with sexual urges, making concessions in order to satisfy their needs that would likely not have been entertained under any other circumstances. When one soldier comes “out” to the other as being gay, that news is not well received and insults and fists begin to fly. When calm is finally restored, the two young men struggle to salvage their badly fractured bond as they are forced to continue to deal with one another while trapped in close quarters.see less
