Audition song suggestions for the character Arpad Laszlo (baritone)

Arpad is employed at Maraczek’s Parfumerie as the delivery boy, but his aspirations know no bounds. He is eager to someday run his own store, and in the meantime he remains a consistently eager and helpful employee.

Audition song suggestions for the character Ladislav Sipos (baritone)

Another employee at Maraczek’s Parfumerie, Sipos generates the least amount of drama compared to the other employees. He is a family man, hard-working, and although he seems simple, he proves to be a wise and caring friend to Georg and the others.

Audition song suggestions for the character Ilona Ritter (mezzo)

A talented store clerk, Ilona has a comfortable grasp of her sexuality and persuasiveness. She is proud of her ardent and not-so-secretive affair with Kodaly until he proves to be a shallow and inconsistent lover. Her character grows to accept that she deserves more, and by the end of the play she has met her new, sensitive flame at the local library.

Audition song suggestions for the character Steven Kodaly (tenor)

Kodaly is the resident ladies’ man of the parfumerie’s employees. He begins a tumultuous affair with Ilona, but makes no attempt to allow the relationship to grow. Not only that, but he’s also begun a more furtive affair with Maraczek’s wife, causing some of the main conflicts of the play and resulting in his termination from the store.

Audition song suggestions for the character Georg Nowack (baritone)

Georg is the leading man at the center of our story, and one of two “Lonely Hearts.” As a coworker, he is friendly and fastidious. He doesn’t always reveal his sensitive and poetic nature, however, which is probably why he and Amalia have a strained relationship at work. When it is revealed that Amalia is his long-term Lonely Hearts penpal, he quickly begins to win her favor.

Audition song suggestions for the character Mr. Maraczek (baritone)

The proud owner of his own parfumerie, Mr. Maraczek is a dedicated boss and husband. He goes from treating Georg, his star employee, with utmost respect to aggression when he suspects he may be having an affair with his wife. When it turns out to be Kodaly who is betraying him, Maraczek attempts to take his own life. He is counseled and cared for by Arpad.

Audition song suggestions for the character Amalia Balash (soprano)

The leading lady and the other “Lonely Heart” of our play, Amalia is the intelligent and conscientious new employee to Maraczek’s Parfumerie. She admires her Lonely Heart penpal for his likewise poetic and sympathetic nature, which is something she doesn’t see in the men around her (especially her coworker Georg, though their physical attraction is apparent). Amidst the confusion of her Lonely Heart romance, she learns to no longer be reliant on her penpal (or any man’s) affection but instead stay true to her values. This leaves room for Georg to win her favor and reveal his identity as her penpal.
