2000 – Contact

Consisting of three separate one-act dance plays, Contact is about finding physical connection with someone…or finding that it’s lacking. This number, “My Heart Stood Still” is from the first play, “Swinging”, set in the 18th century.

2001 – The Producers

The Producers ran for 2,502 performances and won a record-break 12 Tony Awards. It also saw a film version in 2005 starring, once again, Lane and Broderick.

2002 – Thoroughly Modern Millie

The show won 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and due to the success of the show, a US tour and a West End production ran simultaneously.

2003 – Hairspray

Winning 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hairspray ran for 2,642 performances and was adapted for film in 2007.

2004 – Avenue Q

The musical was originally written to be a television series but was transitioned into a Broadway musical. It is ranked as 24th on the list of longest running Broadway shows.

2005 – Spamalot

Based on the 1975 Monty Python cult classic film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot won three Tony Awards and received 14 nominations (holy cow).

2006 – Jersey Boys

A jukebox musical about four boys from the wrong side of the tracks, Jersey Boys won four Tony Awards including Best Musical and went on to have tours in the West End, Toronto, Las Vegas, Chicago, Melbourne, Singapore, South Africa, and The Netherlands.

2007 – Spring Awakening

Opening at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on December 10, 2006, Spring Awakening would go on to win 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It’s also based on the German play Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind (1891).

2008 – In the Heights

Nominated for 13 Tony Awards and winning 4, In the Heights also won a Grammy and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

2009 – Billy Elliot

This show won 10 Tony Awards and ran through April 2016, seeing success in its Australia run, too.

2010 – Memphis

Running on Broadway from October 19, 2009 to August 5, 2012, Memphis won 4 Tony Awards.

2011 – The Book of Mormon

After nearly seven years of development, The Book of Mormon won 9 Tony Awards, and the cast recording became the highest-charting Broadway cast album in over four decades.

2012 – Once

Receiving 11 nominations and 8 Tony Awards, Once also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

2013 – Kinky Boots

Winning 6 Tony Awards, Kinky Boots proved to be Broadway’s underdog show, suddenly spiking in box office sales and advance sales after opening.

2014 –A Gentleman’s Guide to Love And Murder

Based on the 1907 novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love And Murder won 4 Tony Awards.

2015 – Fun Home

Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home won 5 Tony Awards and its cast album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

2016 – Hamilton

Winning 11 Tony Awards, Hamilton also won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

2017 – Dear Evan Hansen

At the 71st Tony Awards, it was nominated for nine awards, winning six, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Actor in a Musical for Ben Platt, and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Rachel Bay Jones.

2018 – The Band’s Visit 

At the 72nd Tony Awards, The Band’s Visit was nominated for 11 awards and won 10, including Best Musical.
