My “Thank You 5\u201d segment is about how memorizing a deck of cards can help you in your acting career. In \u201cProfessor\u2019s Corner\u201d this week, three-time Olivier Award winner and Tony-nominated choreographer for Mary Poppins<\/em>, Stephen Mear<\/a>,<\/span><\/strong> gives his advice not only for auditions but for the rehearsal process as well.<\/p>\n

In this episode of \u201cIn The Holding Room,\u201d we are thrilled to be joined by the amazing Kim Criswell.\u00a0 Kim\u2019s Broadway credits include starring as Lucy, opposite Sting, in The\u00a0Threepenny Opera<\/em>\u00a0directed by John Dexter, and appearing in the original Broadway cast of the 1982 Best Musical Tony winner\u00a0Nine<\/em>, first as Francesca, then taking over the leading role of Claudia. Other Broadway original cast credits include\u00a0The First<\/em>, Baby<\/em>, and\u00a0Stardust<\/em>.\u00a0On the West Coast, she was the original Grizabella in\u00a0Cats<\/em>, singing \u201cMemory\u201d at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles, and also appeared as Lalume in\u00a0Kismet<\/em>\u00a0for Opera Pacific.\u00a0 She starred in the original West End productions of\u00a0Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Slow Drag<\/em>, as well as the revival of Dames At Sea<\/em>,\u00a0and as the Mother Abbess in the acclaimed production of\u00a0The Sound of Music<\/em>\u00a0at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet in Paris. Critically acclaimed for playing Annie Oakley in\u00a0Annie Get Your Gun<\/em>\u00a0at London\u2019s Prince of Wales Theatre, for which she earned an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical, and for her role as The Old Lady in Robert Carsen\u2019s productions of\u00a0Candide<\/em>\u00a0at La Scala and the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet, she has also won a Helen Hayes Award for her work in\u00a0Side by Side by Sondheim<\/em>. She was most recently seen in the US starring as Sally Adams in\u00a0Call Me Madam<\/em>\u00a0at the Goodspeed Opera House, singing the role of The Old Lady in\u00a0Candide<\/em>\u00a0at Chicago\u2019s Ravinia Festival, and co-starring with Joseph Fiennes and Charles Edwards in\u00a0Happy Days<\/em> in the Art World\u00a0at NYU\u2019s Skirball Center in New York. Recently, she played the Italian opera singer Mrs. Castellari in the feature film\u00a0Hysteria<\/em>\u00a0(2013) opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy, and Jonathan Pryce.<\/p>\n

Stephen Mear C.B.E. is joining us in \u201cProfessor\u2019s Corner\u201d this week to offer his advice not only on auditioning but for the rehearsals process as well.\u00a0 Honorary Doctor of Arts and three-time Olivier Award Winner, Tony Nominated Stephen Mear has been described by the Daily Telegraph as \u201cThe old-style master of the modern chorus line.\u201d Stephen\u2019s prolific career has taken him in all directions from musical theater on Broadway and the West End to opera at the ENO, Paris, and the Met in New York. His varied and sought-after talent extends to well know TV programs as well, such as So You Think You Can Dance<\/em>, and The Tracy Ullman Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n
