Memorize the lines, block the scene, BOOM. You\u2019re done, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not quite. Performing a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quality <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scene takes tons of rehearsal time, dedication, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">work. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check out these 8 tips for performing a quality scene that\u2019ll leave the audience speechless.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">1. Help audiences understand the action of the scene through your stellar diction and volume.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-2 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/1_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter if you\u2019re performing a monologue or a scene (or even a musical number), the audience needs to understand what you\u2019re saying. If your character was trying to give another character a glass of water, would she fill the glass and then stand there, waiting for the second character to walk over? Or would she walk <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the other character and offer it?<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">3. Ensure that your character\u2019s motivations are made clear through rehearsed yet honest, in-the-moment acting.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-4 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to know your lines and rehearse your scene so that you know exactly where it starts, meanders, and ends. However, it\u2019s also important to be familiar enough with your scene that you can be in the moment to savor moments and words as if they\u2019re happening for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">4. Honor the character you\u2019re playing, and allow yourself to let go of insecurities and fear. Your performance will be so much more outstanding.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">5. Create a truthful moment the audience can believe in.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-6 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/5_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Part of our jobs as actors is to help the audience get lost in a story, one that they can believe in for just 90 minutes (even though the show may involve fairies or alternate dimensions). It\u2019s the actor\u2019s job to create a believable reality through truthful and honest acting. Don\u2019t just tell the story onstage, allow your character to live it.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">6. Tell the story and faithfully represent the characters and relationships that are written by the playwright.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-7 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/4_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s also our jobs to tell the story that the playwright wrote, not another one that we feel is a \u201cbetter\u201d story. If your lines are, \u201cMary, you cannot do this. You will not do this. I cannot allow you to do this,\u201d don\u2019t paraphrase them or change the wording to, \u201cMary, you can\u2019t. You won\u2019t. I won\u2019t let you.\u201d Also, don&#8217;t change the words because you think your version would be better. The playwright intentionally chose the words <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they wrote <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to represent how your character feels at that very moment. So honor the playwright, honor their words, and honor the character you\u2019re playing by presenting their story as-written.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">7. Give your characters humanity so that audiences care about your character and can identify with their struggle.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-8 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve ever seen a play or a movie that you didn\u2019t like, chances are that the characters weren\u2019t likable (or the story was bad, but we\u2019ll leave that for some other time). If you want the audience to sympathize with your character and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your character, make sure to bring out their humanity. Not every villain is pure evil, and not every hero is infallible.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes section-body-post\" style=\"margin-top:;margin-bottom:;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">8. Give the audience a performance that was worth their time and\/or money.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span style=\"border:1px solid ;\" class=\"fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-9 hover-type-none\"> <img src=\"https:\/\/performerstuff.com\/mgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/2_8-Goals-to-Reach-for-When-Performing-a-Quality-Scene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s nothing worse than going to a play and watching the actors onstage give no more than 50%.
