Being a part of a great ensemble is like being a part of a giant crazy family. The backstage gossip, the multiple quick changes, and not to mention being one of the hardest working members of the show!<\/p>\n

1. Post dance rehearsal soreness.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

You\u2019ve just finished your first dance rehearsal, and everything hurts. You walked into rehearsal a young, bright-eyed performer, and you walked (or crawled) out an elderly person with a broken hip.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Backstage gossip<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

You\u2019re backstage taking a break when all of a sudden you find yourself talking with the other ensemble members about the leads and who\u2019s who.<\/p>\n

<\/div>

3.\u00a0\u201cWho do you play?\u201d<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

When you are asked this question, this is the proper response. As an ensemble member you have multiple roles and personas, so don\u2019t stick to saying \u201cI\u2019m in the ensemble\u201d.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u201cOh\u2026you\u2019re in the ensemble.\u201d<\/h4>\n

When someone says this, as if the show would go on without you, you need to resist every theatrical instinct telling you to fight them. Just shoot them this look. They\u2019ll know what they did.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0When you\u2019re given a third walk-on role to play.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

When you\u2019re reading through the show for the first time and you come across a walk on role that hasn\u2019t been cast — it\u2019s a free-for-all for who gets another quick change, another line, and the bragging rights<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Lip syncing all of the solos backstage.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

Everyone does this one. You lock eyes with the person in the opposite wing, as you both *silently* belt out the show stopping solo that\u2019s on stage. Nothing in theatre has been proven to bond cast members more.<\/p>\n

7. QUICK CHANGES!<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

Running to the dressing rooms after exiting the stage, or even changing in the wings, is a necessary evil for members of the ensemble. Make sure you have everything in place!<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0When the director gives you another set piece to move.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

When there are no stagehands or members of the ensemble who are assigned set pieces. You know, between dancing, singing, and quick changes, you also lift and move the set. The show wouldn\u2019t go on without you!<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0When you’re paired with your best friend.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

The director won\u2019t know what hit them when they tell you two to stop talking every time you\u2019re paired together!<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0\u00a0When the show is over.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

Post-Show Sadness can cause severe feelings of separation, loneliness, and a strong yearning to see your show family again.<\/p>\n

11.\u00a0When you and your show family get together the next night.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

Whether it\u2019s the cast party or just a movie night, a good cure for Post-Show Sadness (or PSS) is seeing your cast-mates again and having a good time.<\/p>\n
