Whether you\u2019re in the cast or on the crew, there\u2019s no doubt you\u2019re facing a time crunch, when\u00a0<\/span><\/span>it comes to balancing your theatrical work and school. In order to give 110% to both, it\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>important to manage both your time and resources. The best way to do this might be to:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1) Keep an updated schedule.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

Whether it\u2019s a daily planner, a calendar app, or a piece of scrap paper set aside for weekly\u00a0<\/span><\/span>reminders- keep it updated. This means blocking out your class times, meal times, and time to<\/span><\/span>do homework, along with your hectic rehearsal schedules which may or may not include<\/span><\/span>memorizing lines, taking down blocking or researching work for your production.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2) Manage your rehearsal time wisely.<\/h4>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/div>

This tip can be difficult to accomplish, especially if you’re prone to dozing off or getting\u00a0<\/span><\/span>sidetracked during rehearsals. A key aspect to avoiding this is managing your rehearsal time<\/span><\/span>wisely. If you have off-time during your rehearsal, use it to get some school work done. Then,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>after spending a good chunk of time on school work, let yourself relax by talking with cast<\/span><\/span>mates or sitting back and watching the rehearsal. Another productive activity you could do\u00a0<\/span><\/span>during your off-time is to read the script and familiarize yourself with its content.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3) Find ways to incorporate theatrical work into your academic work.<\/h4>\n

For a lot of students, there is often a defined between what is academic work, and what is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>theatrical work, but this doesn\u2019t always have to be the case! If you\u2019re studying the humanities,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>or if have a general education requirement to fulfill, there\u2019s a chance you can use your school<\/span><\/span>work to delve deeper into your theoretical knowledge. Need to learn more about Shakespeare?\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Take a Shakespearean literature class. If you need to learn more about a specific time period\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for a play you’re in, consider taking a history class that can teach you just that. It\u2019s easier than\u00a0<\/span><\/span>one might believe, mixing your theatre and academics together. \u00a0Doing so means\u00a0<\/span><\/span>dedicating time in your schedule for both!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4) Keep yourself motivated.<\/h4>\n

Keeping yourself motivated can mean a variety of things. In some cases, it means finding time\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in your schedule to do more relaxing things such as hanging out with friends, spend a night\u00a0<\/span><\/span>watching scary movies, or going to your favorite coffee shop. Having activities like these as\u00a0<\/span><\/span>part of your weekly schedule can motivate you to get your academic and theatrical work done\u00a0<\/span><\/span>on time so that you can enjoy these other activities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5) Recognize when you\u2019re taking on too much at one time.<\/h4>\n

We\u2019ve all been there, and there is absolutely no reason to feel ashamed. We each have our\u00a0<\/span><\/span>limits, and if you start to realize that you\u2019ve reached yours, it\u2019s important to give yourself a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>break. Let go of a project, ask your peers for help or advice, or ask for an extension. This goes for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>your academics as well as your theater work — don\u2019t let yourself get lost in the competitiveness\u00a0<\/span><\/span>or the rigour of the game.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
